Medieval Times, A Dinner Show With Knightly Entertainment
You can enjoy yourself day and night when you vacation in Orlando. The theme parks and other attractions are quite engaging during the day, but at night the fun continues with a variety of entertainment possibilities. Dinner shows of all types are extremely popular here, and one of the most spectacular of all is Medieval Times.
Medieval Times is an 11th Century-style dinner that is accompanied by a tournament in which knights, representing different regions of Spain, battle while cheered on by the diners.
Medieval Times has several locations in the U.S. but their flagship center is in Kissimmee, Florida. While Medieval Times has been entertaining diners in Florida since 1983, the concept of providing an 11th Century dinner-tournament was actually launched in Spain in 1973. In Spain, the equestrian and tournament activities were done in outdoor locations, but the Medieval Times castles currently operating in the USA are strictly indoor climate-controlled facilities.
The plot of the show is simple. You, the diners, are royal guests of King Philippe and his daughter-in-law, Princess Leonore, who present you with a four-course feast while you enjoy the tournament below
The castle in Kissimmee seats more than 1000 guests and is surrounded by a medieval village which you can tour before the show. The village features implements and tools of the middle ages including the torture devices of the era. In fact, there is a complete medieval torture museum.
When you come in for your meal you will be seated in sections named for regions of Medieval Spain and encouraged to cheer for the Knight representing the region which you are sitting in.
You will be served by waiters and waitresses dressed as serfs and wenches, and the meal is 11th Century fare. The current menu includes: garlic bread, tomato bisque soup, roasted chicken, spare rib, herb-basted potatoes, pastry, coffee and two rounds of beverages. A full-service bar is also available for adult guests. Vegetarian meals are available upon request.
The vegetarian meal includes tomato bisque soup, garlic bread, large Portobello mushroom cap stuffed with whole grain, rice and bean blend, large skewer of roasted vegetables, hummus with pita chips, pastry of the castle and two rounds of select beverages. If you opt for the vegetarian meal you should advise your server of special meal requests once you are seated at your table.
At Medieval Times they are striving for authenticity, and in the middle ages there was no silverware, so at this dinner show you have to eat with your hands!
In case you are wondering about the entertainment, you will be treated to two hours of jousting, swordsmanship, hand-to-hand combat, displays of horsemanship and falconry, all of it woven into a story set in medieval Spain.
If you want to take in this feasting and fun during your trip to Orlando, or at another location, you should sign up in advance as their facilities are often booked out. You can book your reservation at the Medieval Times website or call them at 1-866-543-9637
