Celebrate Dark Sky Festival At Harmony On April 17Th
Dark sky festival, a festival renowned for combating light pollution will be held on April 17th at Harmony. The purpose of the Dark Sky Festival at Harmony is to expose the general public to the marvels of astronomy and the importance of protecting dark skies – not just for astronomy purposes, but also for the values that darkness provides to area wildlife. It is a family-friendly festival which is held outdoors in low light conditions on the streets, sidewalks and park located in Harmony Town Square.
It is a festival which is renowned for combating light pollution from past six years. It is the 7th time this event is happening in Harmony Florida. Due to Harmony’s efforts and the support of the County Commissioners, an ordinance now requires new lighting in the County to be protective of dark skies. In a county that includes portions of Walt Disney World and has extensive brightly lit tourist commercial uses, this was a significant event in itself. In addition, all County facilities were retrofitted to better protect the night sky.
Dark house festival has some other unique events too. You can be a part of history by joining in an attempt which is aiming to break the world record for the Largest Astronomy Class. The lesson will kick off with Dr. Terry Oswalt from F.I.T. speaking about the cosmos. Then, Mr. Romanella, the Director of the Space Shuttle and Space Station Operations for Kennedy Space Center, will talk about space exploration and space craft.
It’ll also confer country side music fans with euphonious starry night. Country recording sensation Kenyon Lockry will be taking the main stage to perform under a beautiful star-lit night in Osceola County.
