Asian Elephant Maude Debuts at Zoo Miami
On Tuesday, February 22nd, “Maude,” an approximately 37 year old Asian elephant arrived at Zoo Miami from the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford, FL. Maude’s transfer to Zoo Miami was the result of a Species Survival Plan (SSP) recommendation and the careful planning from both the sending and receiving institutions. The hope was to introduce Maude to our existing pair of Asian elephants, a 44 year old male named “Dalip” and a 42 year old female named “Nellie.”
Update on my 160 liters Asian tank: A lot of new fish, a new shrimp and some new aquatic plants!
These are the new species: Trigonostigma heteromorpha 0.0.5 (I’m getting more!) Puntius titteya 0.0.6 (I’m getting more!) Pangio kuhlii 0.0.2 (I might be getting more) Betta splendens 1.0. And one new specie of crustaceans – Atyopsis moluccensis 0.0.1 The new plants are following: Limnophila aquatica Vallisneria spiralis Hygrophila polysperma
