Hot Destinations for Escaping the Winter Chill
Are you looking to escape the cold winter weather? Taking a vacation might be the perfect way to do just that. Instead of choosing a destination for skiing or a location near your home, check out these hot vacation spots that should get your mind off the snow and ice back home:
Hawaii
If you want to stay in the United States, Hawaii is an excellent option to consider and many travel packages are available. Hawaii has beautiful warm weather throughout the entire year and you do not need a passport to get there. Some of the most popular destinations within Hawaii include Maui, Oahu, The Big Island, Haleakala, and Waikiki Beach. All of these can be great for everything from a family vacation to a romantic honeymoon or a party-filled spring break trip with your friends. While there, you can explore the volcanoes, enjoy the pristine beaches, and attend late-night luaus.
Bali
For a fun cultural experience in a warm climate, consider a vacation to Bali, an Indonesian island located between Java and Lombok. Bali is famous for its art, music and dance, many of which tie into the Hindu religious epics. For a unique experience, visit Bali during the Hindu New Year in the spring. They celebrate with a day of silence, where you are encouraged to stay in your hotel. The day before has many activities available such as parades all over the island. These include spectacular, brightly colored sculptures that are burned to drive away evil spirits.
The Bahamas
The islands of the Bahamas are technically not in the Caribbean, but they are not far from Florida and still have that tropical Caribbean feel. There are over 700 islands in this chain, which you can explore via boat tours. This island nation was once a part of Great Britain, and you can still see and feel the British influence there today.
St. Lucia
One of the most natural scenic locations in the Caribbean is St. Lucia. This island is known for its rainforest, complete with a zip line through the canopy and a volcano that is also a road. During July, you can attend Carnival, complete with parades, costumes, and parties. At one time, the waters around St Lucia were filled with pirates, and there are still sunken ships to explore while diving, coves with pirate themes, and historic shipping locations that you can visit to learn more about pirates in this area.
Bermuda
Like the Bahamas, Bermuda is technically not a part of the Caribbean Islands, but it is often lumped in with them because it has similarly warm, sunny weather. Located off the coast of the Carolinas, this site is a bit colder in the winter, but because of that, it is also a more affordable in the off-season. Bermuda is known for its scuba diving and snorkeling, and while there, pick up a Heritage Passport, which gives you access to all of the island chain’s cultural sites.
Mexico
Cancun and Cabo are just two of the popular vacation destinations in Mexico. Most people equate Mexico with Tijuana and other sites around the border, but locations on the Yucatan Peninsula are actually high-class resort areas with Caribbean weather. In Mexico, you can also explore Mayan ruins, and if you travel farther inland, away from the Caribbean coast or golf, you can find other cultural sites to visit as well.
Tahiti
Located in the South Pacific Ocean, Tahiti is an often-overlooked vacation destination. This French Polynesian island chain has beautiful black sand beaches, and while there, you can visit a number of different islands, including Bora Bora, Moorea, and Taha’a. While staying in Tahiti, you can choose an over-water bungalow room instead of a traditional hotel room for a unique experience. Other popular things to do while in Tahiti include snorkeling, shark feeding, touring a pearl farm, and spending the day at one of Tahiti’s world-renowned spas.
Buenos Aires
If you love the nightlife, the warm weather of Buenos Aires might be perfect for you. This tourist destination is the capital of Argentina. Here, you can see a tango show, shop at the Antique Fairs in Dorrego Square, or go to one of the many music festivals that takes place throughout the year. Of course, for the most fun tourist experience in this location, visit Buenos Aires during Carnival.
If you do not want to leave the United States, visiting one of the southern states is a great option (beside Hawaii) that you can choose for a warm and sunny vacation. Some of the most popular destinations include Orlando, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. If you have the winter blues, plan a trip to a sunny location and leave the ice, snow, and cold weather behind.

Salou, Spain
In the state of Catalonia, not far from the Costa Daurada, is the beautiful seaside resort town of Salou. This shimmering heaven on the Mediterranean draws thousands to its shore each year because of its immense beauty but Salou wasn’t always the tourist attraction that it is known as today. Thousands of years ago, during the reigns of the Greek and Roman Empires, Salou was used as a strategically important port during both war and peace. In the middle Ages, Salou was a hotbed of pirate activity that was widely considered one of the most dangerous places in the world. It wasn’t until Spain’s glory days during the 14th and 15th centuries that Salou became a respectable town and it has been a favorite destination for people around the world ever since.
Salou draws many people to its beaches because of the jaw-dropping natural landscape as much as for the wonderful Mediterranean climate. Like other Riviera cities including Nice and Cannes, Salou has wonderfully warm weather in the day and cool, invigorating breezes at night. Much of this ideal climate has to do with the fortuitous placement alongside the rolling hills and mountains of Spain which themselves add to the splendor of the cityscape. In spite of all this gorgeous scenery, many people who flock to Salou eschew the eye candy and instead indulge in one of Salou’s much loved theme parks. Not unlike Orlando, Florida, Salou boasts some incredible manmade attractions that, while not as purely pretty as Spain’s coastline or mountain ranges, are themselves works of art in their own right. Port Aventura, for instance, is an extremely popular theme park that was formerly owned by Universal Studios and is now owned by the country of Spain exclusively. Boasting such major roller coasters as the Dragon Khan and the Hurricane Condor, which has one of the tallest freefalls in the world at over one hundred meters high, Port Aventura is a treasure trove of adventure for children and adults alike. The fastest roller coaster in all of Europe, the Furius Baco, is also found within. The nightlife of Salou is impressive enough but each night, contained within Port Aventura, the stellar Fiesta Aventura occurs. This massive party consists of floats, fireworks, and massive dancing displays that enthrall visitors and create memories at the same time.
Costa Caribe, though smaller in stature than Port Aventura, is another popular theme park in Salou and it helps to further increase the massive tourist traffic that Salou creates each year. Whether you are visiting to take in the immense natural landscape, frolic on the pristine beaches, or take on some of the most horrifying roller coasters in the world, you can rest assured that Salou will steal your heart with its many fantastic diversions. There are many paradises found alongside the Mediterranean but Salou just may take top honors thanks to its eclectic blend of fun, adventure, and beauty. Be forewarned, though: Once you step foot on Salou’s famed Llevante Beach, you may fall in love and never return home again.
For accommodation in Salou check this list of Salou hotels.

Bigger In Texas
The American southwest has often been associated with cowboys, rodeos, wild west shows and ten-gallon hats. But anyone who has visited one of the great metropolitan cities of the southwest will revise that opinion especially if that big city is called “The Bid D” or Dallas Texas.
Dallas reflects that great Texas saying that “everything is bigger in Texas.” As you move about this fast moving town, you will observe that it’s a huge area and it’s people are on the go constantly in this area called “The Metroplex”. Actually, the metropolitan area of Dallas takes in much, much more than just the town itself as this metropolitan area includes Fort Worth, Arlington and dozens of suburbs that have become absorbed into the excitement that is Dallas.
One of the things that will jump out at you about Dallas even as you enter the city by plane or by automobile is the amazing architecture. The city is a shining example of modern buildings of shiny glass and exciting new design concepts. If there were a city that might fit the description of “The City of the Future”, it would be Dallas, Texas.
Few who have spent anytime in this large modern city ever would mistake it for your image of a hick town. Quite the opposite it true. Dallas is as metropolitan and up to date as any city in the world. And if you know the city well, you know that some of the biggest business deals in the world are made right here in Dallas in those towering skyscrapers and powerful banks that make up the Dallas economy.
But don’t think because Dallas is an economic force to be reckoned with that this is not a genuinely Texas town. As you walk about downtown, you will see businessmen sporting the characteristic cowboy hat and fancy boots. No, they are not “playing dress up”. That is a normal mode of dress here in the heart of the southwest. But at the same time that you see people dressed to the height of southern fashion, you will see many who are adorned in the finest that the fashion worlds of New York, Paris or London have to offer.
Sightseeing in Dallas can be a rich and rewarding experience. Dallas boasts some world-class museums and their theme parks have set the standard for family entertainment that even Orlando and California have to work hard to try to top. But one moving experience that is a “must do” of your sightseeing plans is to visit the memorial to President Kennedy and take a walk on the grassy knoll and up into the book repository where that assassin changed the course of American history forever. It is a sobering reminder of the greatness that was lost that day but also a time to show your affection for one of the greatest presidents this country has serve it in it’s long and illustrious history.
After paying your respects, its time to kick up your heels and have some fun. And no city on earth knows better how to show you a great time that The Big D. The restaurants in this town offer the most diverse menus and the finest chefs this side of Paris. And the nightlife is not just isolated to one part of town. You can disco in the suburbs, country line dance in Fort Worth or bump and grind to the best of modern music in downtown Dallas all night long if you have the inclination. There is even a hidden treasure that is a section of downtown that locals can help you find called “Deep Ellum” that will have you convinced you have been teleported to the hippest parts of New York or Piccadilly Circus in London. But before long you will realize where you are when you look up at the huge green neon lined downtown buildings of downtown Dallas and realize that you, like the song says are, “deep in the heart of Texas.” And we think it will be a place you will want to return to again and again.
