Any jobs that have to do with dogs?
Before you guys start telling me what good jobs there are, I’m going to start by saying that I am 14 years old (male), which makes it harder. I thought I’d get my first job to start saving up and so it might as well be a job containing something I’m most interested in. I don’t care if I have to do dirty work at Petco or clean the cages at Petsmart. I just want to be around dogs. I have plenty experience with them. I live in Orlando, FL. Also I’m going to say that I need to start saving money which could be an advantage for me so I don’t think being suggested to volunteer will be helpful. I already know most will suggest that.

awww:’(… I’m no help I just wanted to say that’s very sweet of you.
I suggest getting a weekend job at Petco or Petsmart. Maybe you could volunteer over the summer, while you still have your paying job, so it will look good on your resume in the future if you want to have a job involving animals.
Groomer
well, being fourteen, you probably won’t be hired at any pet stores. But ask around in your neighborhood or look it up on Craigslist or whatever as a dog walker. You won’t get a lot of money, but you will be with dogs and you will make enough money for a 14 year old.
You are too young to get a real job because of child labor laws. You might try seeing if you can volunteer at a local shelter. This will also help when you are old enough to get a real job because you will have experience & references you can put on your resume.
When I was a vet tech, we would sometimes have young people volunteer to help out. They were not paid or allowed to actually handle the animals (due to liability), but it was a good learning experience for them & probably helped them get jobs later.
dog walker, post an ad.you may also be eligible for an apprenticeship with a groomer
What about working at Wienerschnitzel?
If you are looking for a career in law enforcement or the military, you could be a drug/evidence/search dog handler. I know especially in the FL area, the drug dog arena is a good area to get into with the large Cuban population and such.
Well, being 14 you are very limited as far as what places will hire you. To work at Petco or Petsmart you MUST be at least 18 years old. They cannot legally hire someone younger than 18 due to the nature of the work. I believe the age requirement is the same for most other pet stores and also veterinary clinics. You may have to do what I did and find a job not working with animals until you are old enough. You may still have a challenge though because most places (at least here in Southern California) won’t hire you if your under 16. I wouldn’t rule out volunteer work either. If you are planning on working with animals as a career, volunteering with them will be very beneficial. Most colleges look heavily at volunteer work when considering an applicant and it looks very good on a job resume.
Dog walker would probably be the best. At 14 it would be hard to find a job because of the labor laws. If you got a few regular customers you might be able to pet sit for them some time if your folks were cool with it. You didn’t want to volunteer which I can understand wanting to get paid for your time but if you could at some point the experience might help you get a job in the future. Good Luck
